Special Events: Flat Track Racing
The epitome of flat track racing is the "Springfield Mile" otherwise known as "The MIle." The Mile is the fastest dirt track in world and riders reach speeds of up to 130mph in the straight-a-way and nearly 100mph in the curves - handlebar to handlebar. Our first assignment to shoot the event (and introduction to the sport) came from Harley-Davidson's HOG magazine; but since then, twice a year, we are asked to photograph this top event in flat track racing from one of it's major sponsors - Toyota. It presents a challenge to both contestants and photographers. Again, our focus in the event is to obtain non-traditional (artistic) images vs the standard shots seen from the sea of photographers that shoot the event.
