BAJA!

This was an unforgettable project from a few years back that ended with an article in Harley-Davidson's HOG Magazine.  The title of the article says it all and everyone who participated in this ride had a life changing experience.  A writer and I embarked on a 10+ day adventure documenting 7 riders who rode from Tijuana, Mexico down the Baja peninsula and back.  The ride was not for the faint of heart as the beautiful landscape quickly turned rugged and dangerous.  But along the way, we experienced some of the most incredible views you could imagine.  Despite the beautiful, peaceful  scenery, Baja took it's toll as one of the riders was killed on the return trip.

As a photographer, I was constantly met with challenges, from protecting my gear from the dust and blistering heat to somehow talking (I don't speak Spanish) my way through the many armed military checkpoints along the way.  Copies of motorcycle magazines (featuring my shoots) handed out the armed guards proved to be my "pass" through the checkpoints.  On many occasions after stopping to get riding shots of the group, I found myself alone in the desolate country trying to catch up with the rest of the riders who by then were several miles down the road.

As I said earlier, the title and sub-title of the article says it all.
